Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

OUT OF WHAT ARE THESE NATURAL SCOURER MADE? (このタワシは果たして何でできてる？)

What, do you think, are these?
They look like coconut scourers...

これは何だと思われますか？
タワシに似てますけど・・

We take a walk almost every weekday morning,
and often find them on the road.
There are tall pine trees beside the road...

Yes, they are pinecones!
Cars run over them and they become flat.

平日の朝はたいてい散歩をしますが、
これを道路でよく見つけます.
道のそばには高い松の木々があります・・

そう、松かさです！
車が轢いてぺちゃんこになります.

They are useful to brush pots etc.

植木鉢を洗ったりするのに役に立ちます.

WHITE FLOWERS OF AMARYLLIS AND CAMPANULA (アマリリスとホタルブクロの純白の花)

Most of roses are over and some of them grow flower buds as a second flush.

At the bottom of the iron arbour for Rosa 'Snow Goose',

white amaryllis and white Campanula punctata is in bloom.

We are already in a rainy season,

and it is humid and mosquitoes have appeared.

The best season for relaxing in gardens has gone.

ほとんどのバラが終わって、二番花の蕾を伸ばしているバラもあります.

スノーグースのバラのアーバー（ドーム型アーチ）の下に

白いアマリリスとホタルブクロが咲いています.

すでに梅雨に入り、

蒸し暑く蚊もでてきました.

庭でくつろぐ最高の季節も終わりです.

SETTING SUPPORTS FOR DAHLIA (ダリアに支柱)

Dahlia is growing taller in a raised bed of the potager
and I've set supports for it last weekend.
There are three varieties of dahlia,
light purple, orange and yellow.

ダリアがポタジェのレイズドベッドで丈が高くなってきていて、
先週末に支柱を設置しました.
明るい紫色、橙色、そして黄色の3種類のダリアがあります.

Four two-meter long rebars were used for two varieties,
and put blue spheres on the top of them.
For another variety, an upper part of one rebar was bent circular.

うち、2種類には2メートルの鉄筋を4本使い、
とっぺんに青い球を載せました.
もう一つの品種には一本の鉄筋の上半分を円形に曲げて使いました.

The Met Office declared that the rainy season has started in Kyushu today.
We would have much rain for about six weeks.

今日、九州に梅雨入り宣言がありました
ひと月半ほど雨が続きます

FLOWERS AROUND THE ARBOUR SEAT (アーバーシートまわりの花たち)

It was raining this morning, and we went to the cinema to watch a movie.
In the early afternoon it became sunny
and we did some gardening.

今朝は雨が降っていて、映画をみに映画館へいきました.
午後早い時間に晴れてきて
午後は庭仕事

The border with a arbour seat is sunny in the afternoon.
Flowering season of Echium candicans is over.
A half of flower spikes of it had been cut,
and others were left for getting its seeds.
Catmint is in full bloom under the Echium,
and nigella at the right of the border.

アーバーシートのあるボーダー花壇は午後よく日があたります.

エキウム・カンディカンスの花期は終わり、

花穂の半分は切ってしまい、

あとは種を取るために残しています.

キャットミントはエキウムの下で満開、

右側ではニゲラが咲いています.

Purple petunia in two pots beside the arbour seat are in bloom,

and Clematis 'Princess Diana' bears wonderful pink flowers.

紫色のペチュニアがアーバーシートの両側のポットで咲き
クレマチス「プリンセス・ダイアナ」がピンクの花をつけています.

ANGELICA FLOWERS IN THE GARDEN (庭のハマウドの花)

Angelica japonica is a perennial growing to 1 m (3 feet), and its flower heads may grow to 2.5 m (8 feet) high.
It is native in Japan and is often found near seashores.

The shape of its flower head is just like flowers of Apiaceae.

ハマウドは約1メートルの多年草で、その花穂は2.5mに及ぶこともあります
日本原産で、海辺にみられます
花穂の形はセリ科の花の形をしています
