REFORMING THE RAISED BEDS (レイズドベッドのリフォーム)

Autumn flowers are almost over, 

and I decided to reform the two pentagonal raised bed, 

in which I planted asparagus.  

Some of the asparagus plants died probably because of root rot this spring.  

I happened to watch the DVD of Geoff Hamilton's 'The Ornamental Kitchen Garden', 

and he showed his asparagus bed.  

He said that asparagus likes a lot of free drainage.  

The bed looked two feet high, and I thought I should make our bed much higher.  

I made two beds where I planted asparagus about 8 inches higher by adding boards.   

Boards were coated with antiseptic paint, and were painted blue gray by Marple.  

In order to make the boards last long,

 I lined the wooden edges with nonwoven weed-preventing sheet.  

It took a whole weekend, 

and when they have finished, night fell.  

Day time of this season is so short. 

At the end, I fit LED illumination lights on the gazebo.  

秋の花がほとんど終わり、

ポタジェのアスパラガスを植えている二つのレイズドベッドを

リフォームすることにしました。

春にアスパラガスがいくつか根ぐされで枯れました。

たまたまジェフ・ハミルトン氏の「オーナメンタル・キッチン・ガーデン」のDVDをみていて、

彼がアスパラガス用のレイズドベッドを紹介していました。

彼曰く、アスパラガスはたくさんの水がよくはけるのが好きだというのです。

そのベッドは60センチほどの高さがあるように見え、

うちのベッドももっと高くすべきだと思いました。

そこで、アスパラガスを植える2つのレイズドベッドを板を追加して

20センチほど高くしました。

板は防腐塗料を塗り、その上からマープルがブルーグレイのペンキを塗ります。

板が長持ちするように、さらに

板の内側に不織布の防草シートを張りました。

この作業はこの週末いっぱいかかり、

終わったときには日が暮れました。

この時期は昼がとても短いです。

最後に、ガゼボにLEDのイルミネーションライトをつけました。
